What do we do?
Rampworx is the largest indoor extreme sports facility in the UK providing safe and secure facilities for over 1000 disadvantaged young people per week, aged 5 and over who partake in 'In Line' skating, BMX and Skateboarding. The project, also offers local disadvantaged young people the opportunity to take part in alternative activities that can improve their lives as 81% of the young people we work with live in poverty, have suffered abuse, neglect, have disabilities and or behavioural or psychological problems. (Interchange, 2007) The skatepark exists to develop grass roots level participants up to elite level riders with a series of regular and free coaching programmes, clinics, national and international events. Aside of the sports provision, Rampworx provides personal development projects; including health awareness schemes, sexual health and healthy eating workshops, discounted sports coaching, video arts, fashion design, photography and break-dance. The project offers structured and targeted projects that directly address the Every Child Matters criteria by offering a safe and healthy environment for young people to enjoy and achieve in the sports and programmes we provide. This allows young people to make a positive contribution to the local community by improving health, reducing anti social behaviour and crime by developing personal skills, including confidence, discipline and self-esteem. Crucially, we work closely with organisations; such as local police, youth service, youth offending team and Primary Care Trust to 'join up' our services and offer appropriate, accessible and effective initiatives that provide educational projects to disadvantaged local young people. The project will attract disadvantaged local young people who do not use the facility and who cause public nuisance and damage in the local and surrounding towns Aintree, Maghull, Netherton and Bootle.
